Golly. It has been a zinger of a ride, I tell you.
Back in February, I cancelled an appearance in Pennsylvania because I had a gum infection–or so I thought. I’ve had these off and on for years so did the usual tending. I went on to do ConVocation, to the Appalachian Studies Association Conference and Sacred Space. The weekend before leaving for Sacred Space, I realized I needed to see my dentist–but they were closed that Monday so I went to that high-powered wonderful conference with an aching jaw and the certainty that this was now a tooth issue. I got to the dentist the following week and it was indeed an abscess and I was given antibiotics & loaded up on ibuprofen and acetaminophen.
Then I left for Pagan Unity Festival in western Tennessee. It was great, by the way. At that point I was not in any pain but got tired easily. All good.
Returned from that on Monday and left for Tuesday for the high country. I had a speaking engagement at Appalachian State University on Wednesday and was spending the night at my daughter’s nearby.
The talk went well and was well attended. I spent one more night in the high country, knowing Thursday/yesterday would find me getting a root canal in the afternoon.
I had made it into a big deal–had some fear about the pain. But my dentist is amazing and it was very nearly painless. I’m grateful and relieved and taking today off. I did a little gardening, am checking in with you…and then, a nap.
So, how are you all? No, really, I want to know.
Smooches!
